Rama Cont

Senior Advisor at 73 Strings

Graduate of Ecole Polytechnique (1994) and holder of a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from Paris Saclay University (1998), Rama Cont began his career as a researcher at Ecole Polytechnique (1998-2006) before joining Columbia University in New York as an associate professor (2007). Promoted to Director of Research at the CNRS (2010), he then became Professor of Mathematics at Imperial College (London) (2012-2018) before being named Professor at Oxford University (2018) where he currently holds the Chair of Mathematical Finance and Senior Research Fellow of the Institute for New Economic Thinking.

Rama Cont has a globally recognized expertise on financial risk modeling, with more than 50 publications on this subject. He received the Grand Prix Louis Bachelier of the French Academy of Sciences (2010) for his work on financial risk modeling, and the Royal Society Award (2017) for excellence in interdisciplinary research for his work on systemic risk modeling.

Alongside his academic career, he has a substantial experience in consulting in the financial sector, with major international financial institutions and stock exchanges. He was scientific advisor to Norges Bank (2014-2019), the International Monetary Fund (2017-2019) and has led consulting missions for DTCC (2009-2010), Intercontinental Exchange (2009-2011), BMF-Bovespa (2010-2014), ACPR (2016) and the European Central Bank (2018-2019).
