HR McMaster serves as a Fouad and Michelle Ajami Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, a Chairperson at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, and a Bernard and Susan Liautaud Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, all since August 2018. Additionally, HR McMaster holds the position of Japan Chair at the Hudson Institute and serves as a lecturer at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Previously, HR McMaster was the 26th National Security Advisor of the United States from February 2017 to March 2018 and served as an Army Officer in the US Army from 1980 to 2018. Educational qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy in American History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
