Edna Apatiki

Edna Apatiki was born and raised in Gambell on St. Lawrence Island and is of St. Lawrence Island Yupik descent. She has attended A.J. Dimond High School, Sheldon Jackson Junior College, University of Alaska Fairbanks, obtained her masters degree at University of Alaska Anchorage, and even attended Alaska Pacific University from 1970-1973. She has a professional background in education with jobs ranging from a high school teacher to principal. Edna has served on the board of directors for Sivuqaq, Inc., and the Office of Advocacy for Children. She believes it is important to plan for the future success of students across Alaska and is interested in the curriculum and education of our future leaders.

Edna has a husband and a son. During her time at APU, which was then Alaska Methodist University, she traveled to Sweden and other Scandanavian countries twice under Dr. Karl Erik-Mauve. She also crossed with the Sámi Indigenous people in upper Scandanavia.
