Pieter Abbeel

Pieter Abbeel serves as an Amazon Scholar since September 2024 and is a Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, where research and teaching focus on artificial intelligence, robotics, deep learning, and various learning paradigms. Pieter is an Investment Partner at AIX Ventures, supporting AI start-ups, and hosts The Robot Brains podcast, which features discussions with leading experts in AI and robotics. As Co-Founder, President, and Chief Scientist of covariant.ai from October 2017 to August 2024, Pieter contributed to the development of AI software for teaching robots complex skills. Co-Founder of Gradescope, which enhanced the grading process, Pieter previously held the position of Research Scientist at OpenAI and completed a Ph.D. in Computer Science at Stanford University, complemented by earlier degrees in Electrical Engineering from KU Leuven.
