Chong Wang is a Principal Scientist at Apple since July 2022, specializing in foundational language models and on-device machine learning. Prior to this role, Chong served as the Head of Applied ML Research at ByteDance from March 2019 to July 2022 and held positions at Google as a Research Scientist from September 2017 to March 2019 and at Microsoft Research as a Researcher from February 2016 to September 2017, focusing on deep learning and graphical models. Additionally, Chong contributed to Baidu Silicon Valley AI lab as a Research Scientist, where a significant achievement included developing the row-convolution layer for enhanced speech recognition. Earlier experience includes a role as a Senior Member of Research Staff at The Voleon Group and a Project Scientist at Carnegie Mellon University, concentrated on fast machine learning and recommendation systems. Chong holds a Ph.D. in Machine Learning from Princeton University and a BE/ME in Automation from Tsinghua University.
