Dr. Jörn Niessing

Scientist at AudioCure Pharma

Dr. Jörn Niessing has a diverse work experience, beginning in 2003 with an Undergraduate Research Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt am Main, where they analyzed the neural basis of hemodynamic signals as measured in functional MRI. In 2005, they began a PhD Student role at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research / Max-Planck Institute for Medical Research, where they analyzed attractor-like network activity for the classification of highly overlapping odorant input into the olfactory bulb of the zebrafish. In 2010, they held an Editorial Trainee role at Spektrum der Wissenschaft Verlagsgesellschaft mbH, followed by a Scientific Assistant (Science Communications) role at bio.logis Genetic Information Managment GmbH in 2011. In 2012, they began a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow (Project Group Leader) role at the Max Planck Institute for Neurobiology, where they investigated complex neural activity patterns across hundreds of neurons, evoked by natural ultrasound-communication calls of newborn mice. This data was analyzed using MATLAB and Python-based supervised and unsupervised learning and neural network algorithms. Most recently, in 2021, Dr. Niessing began a Scientist role at AudioCure Pharma GmbH.

Dr. Jörn Niessing obtained a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Basel between 2005 and 2010. Dr. Jörn then went on to earn a Diplom in Biology from Goethe University between 1998 and 2004. Dr. Jörn is currently enrolled in the Freie Journalistenschule (FJS) and is expected to receive a Fachjournalist degree in Communication, Journalism and related programs by 2022.
