Reports To: Senior Safety Manager

Summary of Position: The Safety Manager is responsible for the environmental health and safety compliance for Blach Construction’s operations in Southern California. This position involves developing and delivering safety training, jobsite specific safety planning, inspections, identification and correction of hazardous conditions and behavior. The Safety Manager will align with Blach’s safety philosophy and model Blach Construction’s core values. 

Typical Duties:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for safety protocols on all jobsites in the Greater Los Angeles and Orange County region

  • Collaborate with project teams to identify and resolve issues to ensure optimal safety on all Blach jobsites

  • Provide coaching and mentoring for employees exhibiting unsafe behaviors and provide recognition for employees exhibiting safe behaviors

  • Manage Safety equipment inventories and programs

  • Facilitate Safety Recognition Program and provide recognition for employees exhibiting safe behaviors

  • Provide oversight for injury and incident investigations

  • Manage project/self-perform setup for safety compliance on all Southern California projects

  • Manage Cal/OSHA project permits

  • Evaluate effectiveness of safety programs through weekly field walks

  • Deliver safety training and new employee orientations to all new hires in Southern California

  • Lead, manage and train Safety Coordinators in Southern California

  • Assist in the development of project-specific corrective action plans to address safety issues occurring in the field

  • Collaborate with job-specific safety initiatives and performance measures

  • Provide administration support related to safety documentation

  • Review safety submittals and MPS (Minimum Performance Standards) with trade partners

  • Implement and support Hammertech Construction software

  • Identify highest risk on the project and ensure controls measures are in place

  • Stop any unsafe work operations and provide guidance for moving forward safely

  • Continuous improvement; staying updated on industry best practices and emerging trends

  • Lead Blach’s “back to work” program for any employees with limited duty restrictions in Southern California

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Strong teamwork, initiative, problem solving and leadership skills

  • Strong knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulatory standards

  • Effective public speaking presentation skills

  • Ability to research safety solutions and provide guidance on content

  • Detail orientated with ability to assist on multiple project tasks

  • Ability to achieve Competent Person Certification in fall protection, excavation and scaffolding, etc.

  • Journeyman trade experience a plus

  • Experience with union workforce desired

  • OSHA 30-hour Construction (Preferred)

  • CPR/FA/AED Certified (Trainer Preferred)

  • Forklift/Aerial Lift/Elevated Platform trainer a plus

  • Other safety professional certifications, such as CSHO or CHST preferred

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Programs

  • Fluent Spanish skills are highly preferred

  • Strong interpersonal and clear communication skills

Location: Southern California (Orange County or Greater Los Angeles area)

Position Status: Full-time, regular business hours, exempt
