George Arey is the Associate Vice President for Residential Life and Special Projects at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
With 25 years in higher education, George has held diverse roles at large, midsized, and small institutions, including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Ball State University, and the University of Maine at Farmington. Since joining Boston College in 2005, he has progressively broadened his responsibilities, contributing to areas across the university, from student affairs units to residential life and academic affairs departments.
In his role overseeing Residential Life, George leads a dedicated team of 38 professional staff, over 300 student employees, and 22 graduate students, all working together to foster a
supportive and developmental residential experience for more than 7,700 students on a predominantly residential campus. Additionally, George’s Special Projects responsibilities involve collaborating across the Division of Student Affairs and Boston College to manage facility concerns, spearhead improvements, and lead new construction projects. Through these efforts, he partners with various university colleagues to create innovative initiatives that enhance the student experience.
George received an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in political science and Asian history from the University of Maine at Farmington in Farmington, Maine, in 2000. Afterward, George pursued a Master of Arts (MA) in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, in 2000. George is pursuing a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Higher Education Leadership at Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts. His dedication to creating impactful student experiences continues to guide his work and contributions within higher education.
