Elke Arenholz

Director, National Synchrotron Light Sources Ii, Nsls-ii at Brookhaven National Laboratory

Elke Arenholz is an accomplished physicist with extensive experience in leadership roles within prestigious research institutions. Currently serving as Director of the National Synchrotron Light Sources II at Brookhaven National Laboratory since August 2024, Elke previously held positions such as Director of the Physical Sciences Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Initiative Director for the Interconnected Science Ecosystem at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Additional roles include Associate Director at Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source and Adjunct Professor at Cornell University, alongside various scientific and leadership positions at the Advanced Light Source and University of California, Berkeley. Elke earned a PhD in Physics from Freie Universität Berlin, complemented by an MS and BS in Physics from the University of Regensburg.
