Dr. Toldo is a Research Scientist in cardiac biology and physiology at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Toldo earned a Master’s in molecular biology from the University “La Sapienza” in Rome, Italy, and a doctoral degree in Molecular and Cellular Cardiology from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, Italy. He completed a 5-year postdoctoral fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University, in the Division of Cardiology, on the mechanisms linking myocardial injury to developing inflammatory processes in the heart. Dr. Toldo joined the faculty with the rank of Assistant Professor and later Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology, at Virginia Commonwealth University. He continued working on the mechanisms linking inflammation and myocardial function, and injury in different settings, including myocardial infarction, heart failure, heart transplantation, and pericardial diseases. Dr. Toldo and his team have developed a mouse model of acute pericarditis.
