Zainab Usman

Zainab Usman, Ph.D., serves as the Director of the Africa Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace since February 2021. Previously, Zainab held various roles at The World Bank, including Public Sector Specialist and Young Professional in Energy & Extractives from September 2016 to October 2020. Zainab contributed to the Blavatnik School of Government as a Research Officer and also held positions as a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant at the University of Oxford. Additional experience includes work with the Department for International Development and the Office of the National Security Adviser as Team Lead and Researcher, as well as internships and assistant roles at other organizations. Zainab earned a Ph.D. in International Development from the University of Oxford and a Master of Science from the University of Birmingham.
