Member Services Coordinator Marcela Alvarado grew in Arequipa, Peru with a strong desire to help her father in his business. She went to La Universidad Cattolica Santa Maria and earned her Licenciatura en Ciencias Admnistrativas. When she moved to the United States, she saw that the Latino families in her community were having trouble preparing their children to enter a foreign school system. Because of this need, she studied at the Early Childhood Institute Inc. and began working with Montgomery County Early Childhood Services. This previously held position led her to become the CASA’s Family Literacy Coordinator. She worked with children, ages 3 to 5, in Long Branch community to prepare them to enter the public school system. Simultaneously, she was studying to become a nursing assistant and was given the opportunity to apply to become CASA’s Health Access Coordinator. She now manages the Medical Interpretation Services to Montgomery County residents with low income, uninsured, or underinsured to connect with the health care providers in the community clinics. In addition, she is also the Member Services Coordinator, connecting members to community resources they need. In 2019, she earned her Master in Public Administration and Non-Profit Management from Ana G. Mendez.
