Kate received her J.D. from Albany Law School, which she attended as a Leopold Schepp Foundation Academic Fellow. Her undergraduate education was at St. John's University in New York City, where she received a B.A. in English, cum laude. Kate is currently in private practice, concentrating on trusts and estates, guardianship matters, and real estate transactions. She worked as an Albany County Assistant County Attorney, Albany County Assistant District Attorney, and she served as Chief Clerk of the Albany County Surrogate's Court for twenty years. Kate was elected Surrogate's Court Judge in 2000 and served until 2014, during which time she also served as an acting Supreme Court Justice. She has also served for many years as a faculty member of Maria College and Albany Law School.
