Todd J. Regis was appointed to the Board of Trustees by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in February 2023 for an eight year term expiring December 31, 2030. He is the Recorder/Officer and Director of Legislative & Community Affairs for United Food & Commercial Workers Local 951, the largest private sector union local in Michigan. The UFCW represent over 1.3 million members working in industries including retail, meat packing, food processing and manufacturing, hospitality, agriculture, cannabis, chemical trades, security, textiles and healthcare in the United States and Canada. Mr. Regis has extensive experience in organizing, contract negotiations, problem solving, grievance handling, arbitrations and legislative policy learned in his 40 years of membership and 34 years as a staff member.
Prior to serving in his current position, which he was elected to in January 2023, his roles at UFCW 951 have included serving as a Vice President, Director of Contract administration, Political Director, Director of Organizing and representative. Since 2006, he has served as Chairman and director of the UFCW Local 951 Foundation, a 501(c)(3) that assists UFCW member families and communities throughout Michigan. Mr. Regis was instrumental in soliciting over 125,000 pounds of food donations and over 90 semi-trucks of bottled water to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan in Flint at the beginning of their water crisis in 2016.
Mr. Regis is a fifth generation native of Hickory Corners, MI and has previously served on the Certificate of Needs Commission, Michigan Food Policy Commission, Michigan Food Security Commission, and the Michigan Commission of Agriculture, serving as chairman in 2010. He has also served on numerous community boards including the Potter Park Zoo Board and Alpha Kappa Psi National Foundation board.
