Benoit Mulsant

Dr. Mulsant is a Professor in, and the Chair of, the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. Over the past 25 years, the overarching goal of his research work has been to improve the treatment of older persons with severe mental disorders, including those with psychotic depression, treatment-resistant depression, or late-life bipolar disorder. More recently, he and his collaborators have been involved in identifying pharmacogenetics and neuroimaging biomarkers of treatment outcomes. Dr. Mulsant has authored and co-authored more than 400 peer-reviewed journal articles and 50 book chapters and invited publications. He has been an investigator on grants with funding totaling more than $140M in direct costs (including more than half as principal investigator or team leader). He has a small clinical practice focused on older patients with severe mental and cognitive disorders (dementia). He has been listed in both Best Doctors in America and Best Doctors in Canada.

Dr. Mulsant earned his MD from the School of Medicine, Laval University, Quebec. He completed his internship in internal medicine and neurology at Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal, and Montreal Neurological Hospital, and his residency in psychiatry at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, University of Pittsburgh. He currently serves on the editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry and is a triage editor for the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry.
