The Champaign County Forest Preserve District is a local, property tax-supported government agency charged with the stewardship of seven forest preserves covering almost 4,000 acres in Champaign County, Illinois. The Forest Preserve District, which covers all but seven sections of Champaign County, was established by referendum in 1935. Due to the Depression and World War II, however, the first preserve was not opened until 1948.

We conserve, preserve and restore natural areas.  We provide cultural, historical and environmental opportunities. We provide compatible outdoor recreation experiences.

The Programs and Education Team at Champaign County Forest Preserves designs, coordinates, and implements educational and recreational programs for the community. They focus on youth engagement, public outreach, and environmental education to promote awareness and appreciation of natural and cultural resources. Their efforts aim to enhance visitor experiences and foster a deeper connection with the preserves.
