Middle School Mathematics Teacher at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools

Philana Woods is an experienced educator with a strong background in middle school mathematics instruction and teacher leadership development. Currently serving as a Middle School Mathematics Teacher for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools since December 2023, Philana previously held the position of Director of Teacher Leadership Development at Teach For America from October 2016 to May 2023, where responsibilities included leadership development, coaching support, and overseeing corps member progress in Title 1 schools. Philana's teaching experience spans various roles, including Middle School Math Teacher positions at National Heritage Academies and KIPP Charlotte, and an Instructor role at Central Piedmont Community College. Philana also contributed as a Selector and New Teacher Observation Specialist with TEACH Charlotte (TNTP) and served as a Middle Grades Math Teacher at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools earlier in the career. Philana holds a Master of Education in Curriculum & Supervision from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from North Carolina Central University.
