Alan Harkness

Alan Harkness is an experienced library director currently serving as the Director of the Chattahoochee Valley Libraries since July 2013, managing a four-county library system with seven facilities, two bookmobiles, and two 24-hour library kiosks, supported by over 100 staff members. Prior to this role, Alan worked as the Assistant State Librarian for Library Development at the Georgia Public Library Service, overseeing various responsibilities including continuing education and resource sharing. Alan's earlier experience includes serving as the Regional Director for the Piedmont Regional Library System, managing an extensive library system serving over 150,000 residents, and various positions at the Gwinnett County Public Library, including Staff Development Manager and Branch Manager. Alan Harkness holds a Master’s in Library Science from Florida State University and a Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies from Georgia State University.
