David A. Alvarez

The Rt. Rev. David Alvarez served as Bishop of The Diocese of Puerto Rico from 1989 until his retirement in 2013. He also served as Coadjutor Bishop of Puerto Rico and Acting Bishop in Cuba and was a member of the Executive Committee of The Episcopal Church.

He helped develop health and social ministries in Puerto Rico in collaboration with Episcopal Health Services, Episcopal Social Services, and Episcopal Homes for the Elderly, and focused on enhancing the financial self-support of the diocese.

He was elected to serve his first term on The Church Pension Fund Board of Trustees in 2022.

Bishop Alvarez received an MDiv from the Seminario Episcopal del Caribe and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from the Caribbean Center for Advanced Studies.
