Kevin J. Bethel

Kevin J. Bethel serves as the Police Commissioner for the City of Philadelphia since January 2024. Prior to this role, Bethel was the Chief of School Safety for The School District of Philadelphia, overseeing safety operations for approximately 120,000 students and 19,000 employees. Bethel founded the Law Enforcement Juvenile Justice Institute, focusing on cross-systems, community-centered initiatives, and served as Senior Policy Advisor for the Stoneleigh Foundation, promoting Juvenile Justice Reform and the Philadelphia Police School Diversion Program. Bethel’s earlier experience includes serving as Deputy Commissioner of Patrol Operations and Captain for the Philadelphia Police Department. Bethel holds a Bachelor of Science from Chestnut Hill College and a Master of Science in Public Safety Management from Saint Joseph's University.
