Joe Newell has a wealth of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. Joe previously worked as the Chief Operations Officer at Atara Biotherapeutics from March 2020 to March 2022. In this role, Joe was responsible for defining a comprehensive global manufacturing plan, long term global supply chain, building an engineering services capability, establishing a comprehensive logistics and distribution capability and ultimately positioning Atara for years to come to ensure patients have availability to Atara's therapies no matter where they live.

From April 2017 to March 2020, Joe Newell served as the Executive Vice President, Technical Operations at Atara Biotherapeutics. In this role, they were responsible for overseeing all of Atara's manufacturing operations, including cGMP compliance, process development, quality control and assurance, supply chain management, and engineering.

Prior to Atara Biotherapeutics, Joe Newell was with Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from June 2015 to March 2017 as the Vice President, North America Manufacturing. In this role, Joe was responsible for leading Alexion's North American Manufacturing organization and overseeing all aspects of commercial product supply for Alexion's products manufactured in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Before joining Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Joe Newell was with Amgen from September 2014 to June 2015 as the Executive Director - Operations Strategic Planning, Risk Management and Project Management. In this role, they were responsible for developing and leading Amgen's operations strategic

Joe Newell completed their undergraduate degree at California State Polytechnic University-Pomona with a BS in Biology. Joe then attended Loyola Jesuit College Preparatory for their post-secondary education.
