Niall Tierney

Niall Tierney serves as the Director for Global Programmes and Global Citizen Education at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland since September 2023. Previously, Niall was a Senior Advisor to the UN Resident Coordinator in Mozambique from October 2021 to September 2023, where Niall co-chaired a crisis group addressing national legislation and policy modifications. Niall's extensive experience at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade includes roles as Deputy Head of Mission in Maputo and Deputy Head of Cooperation in both Mozambique and Ethiopia, highlighting initiatives in governance and health portfolios. Niall has also held leadership positions at Concern Worldwide, including Country Director in Mozambique and Niger, focusing on humanitarian response and strategic program development. Niall's educational background includes advanced degrees from institutions such as Imperial College London and SOAS University of London, as well as a certificate from the International Monetary Fund in macroeconomic diagnostics.
