Darryl Willie is the current chairman of Duval County Public Schools. Darryl has held this position since 2019. Prior to that, they were the Executive Director of Teach For America in Jacksonville, Florida. In that role, they oversaw administration, programs, fundraising and strategic planning and partnerships for the local organization. Darryl also led multi million dollar fundraising efforts on the local and state level in both public and private arenas.
Willie began their career as a classroom teacher with Teach For America, teaching 2nd, 5th, and 6th grade students. Darryl then went on to become the Program Director for Student Orientation at UC Berkeley from 2007-2011. After that, they served as an ACUHOi Fellow at the University of Miami from 2006-2007. Darryl then became the Graduate Resident Director at the University of Georgia from 2005-2007.
Darryl Willie graduated from North Carolina State University with a BS in Textile Management and Business Minor. Darryl then went on to earn their Master of Education (MEd) in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration from The University of Georgia.
