POSITION OVERVIEW

This unique opportunity allows the successful candidate a window to all business aspects of an independent capital markets platform: investment banking, equity capital markets, institutional sales & trading, and equity research. Over a 2-year period, the successful candidate will rotate within each business area to gain valuable experience and hone in on their key interests for a future career in the capital markets industry. The successful candidate will be an integral member of a friendly, hard-working team. As part of the Capital Markets Rotational Program, you must be financially literate in accounting, quantitative analysis, and valuations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to work effectively across several levels and teams. You must have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and a strong desire to learn, be challenged and grow.

ROTATION OVERVIEW

Rotation 1: Investment Banking 

The successful candidate will gain valuable exposure to both a wide array of industries, including healthcare, energy, technology, media, real estate, cannabis, mining, and diversified industries, and diverse products ranging from equity offerings, debt financings, and M&A advisory.

You will:

  • Support senior bankers in the execution of financing and advisory mandates
  • Conduct financial modelling, various financial and strategic analyses, discounted cash flow analysis, comparable company analysis, precedent transaction analysis and other industry specific analyses as required
  • Analyze financial statements and perform other qualitative and quantitative analysis as required
  • Monitoring and perform research on capital markets and industry trends
  • Constructing detailed financials models and industry databases
  • Assist in the preparation of extensive written documents including pitches, proposals, management presentations and confidential information memoranda
  • Participate in client calls and meetings
  • Provide business development support as required

Rotation 2: Institutional Sales & Trading

On your Institutional Sales & Trading rotation, individuals will aid the team in the complete coverage of buy-side institutional clients, with dynamic ideas and efficient trade execution. The ideal candidate will help support the Institutional Sales and Trading team with a number of duties and projects related to the equities business unit.

You will:

  • Collaborate with the team to provide ideas and research to institutional investors and family offices
  • Interface with our research analysts in order to maximize market share and commissions and provide market feedback to improve the relevance and quality of the research product
  • Build and cover client accounts
  • Leverage research products and increase visibility of the equity research team through analyst marketing
  • Assist in the organization of client events and corporate roadshows

Rotation 3: Equity Research

On your Equity Research rotation, individuals in this role will learn and develop the techniques and skills necessary for investment analysis and research of publicly traded securities. This experience typically offers an in-depth understanding of the financial and operational issues within a particular sector, gaining valuable skills, knowledge, and relationships.

You will:

  • Support the rigorous fundamental research on assigned securities/sectors
  • Aid in writing and editing company and industry research reports (e.g., quarterly reporting, marketing packages, etc.)
  • Assist in the preparation of financial models to forecast quarterly and annual earnings, including maintaining and enhancing financial models and databases
  • Contribute to the compiling and analyzing of relevant company and industry information, originating from a broad variety of sources (such as financial databases, regulatory filings, industry publications, etc.)

Rotation 4: Equity Capital Markets

On your Equity Capital Markets rotation, individuals in this role will learn and develop the techniques and skills necessary for originating, structuring, and executing equity and equity-linked offerings for corporates. ECM sits at the intersection of Ventum’s investment banking business and its research / sales & trading business. ECM’s activities include IPOs, follow-ons, spin-offs, and convertible/derivative strategies.

You will:

  • Assist in identifying and targeting new business opportunities

  • Develop/define equity offering strategies and appropriately communicate and advise corporate clients

  • Support senior bankers on equity transaction execution and new business origination

  • Develop / maintain institutional investor relationships that can be leveraged to market transactions and provide client feedback in deal and non-deal settings

  • Maintain real-time capital market knowledge and macro and microeconomic themes that drive equity markets and investor sentiment

  • Develop and maintain equity marketing materials

  • Participate in other projects as requested by management

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS (ROTATIONAL PROGRAM):

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree with a demonstrated interest in Finance, with an expected graduation date of June 2025; capital markets internship experience is an asset.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines
  • Exceptional quantitative skills, with a solid understanding of financial valuation methods
  • Exceptional financial modelling skills
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg, S&P Capital IQ and FactSet
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and take on new responsibilities
  • Strong work ethic and be a positive team-player – trustworthy, capable, and reliable.
