The Ecological Society of America is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of scientists founded in 1915 to promote ecological science by improving communication among ecologists; raise the public’s level of awareness of the importance of ecological science; increase the resources available for the conduct of ecological science; and ensure the appropriate use of ecological science in environmental decision making by enhancing communication between the ecological community and policy-makers.

The 9,000 member Society publishes 6 journals, convenes an annual scientific conference, and broadly shares ecological information through policy and media outreach and education initiatives.

The Diversity Programs Team at the Ecological Society of America is dedicated to promoting inclusivity and broadening participation within the field of ecological science. They develop and implement initiatives aimed at increasing diversity among ecologists, facilitate workshops and training sessions, and foster partnerships with underrepresented communities. Through these efforts, the team seeks to enhance equity in ecological research and ensure that diverse perspectives are represented in environmental decision-making.
