Farid Afshar

Farid Afshar is a highly experienced professional in the field of materials engineering, currently serving as the Defense & Energy Technical Manager (Europe) and Hydrogen Lead Engineer at Element Materials Technology since October 2013. Farid specializes in fracture mechanics and engineering critical assessments, particularly in welded materials and structures, contributing significantly to the energy industry. Prior experience includes roles as a Senior Fracture Mechanics and Corrosion Engineer and a Researcher at the Materials Innovation Institute, where Farid developed advanced corrosion-resistant aluminum brazing materials. Early career positions include a Materials Engineer at Shell and a Corrosion and Inspection Engineer at the National Iranian Oil Company, focusing on corrosion inspection, material characterization, and quality assurance. Farid holds a PhD in Materials Characterization, Corrosion, and Electrochemistry from Delft University of Technology, where a Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering was also obtained, in addition to a Bachelor's degree in Safety and Technical Inspection Engineering from the Petroleum University of Technology.
