Mark Simmonds is a former member of the UK Parliament and Foreign & Commonwealth Office Minister responsible for Africa, the Caribbean, United Kingdom (UK) Overseas Territories, International Energy, and Conflict Prevention. Prior to becoming a UK government minister, Simmonds was involved in the health care sector, working as a shadow minister of health responsible for primary care, oncology, pharmaceuticals, and health technology. He also served as shadow minister for the former Department for International Development where he was responsible for health care provision in developing countries. Simmonds currently focuses on driving and facilitating investment in Africa across a range of sectors, including hydrocarbons, financial services, infrastructure, health care, energy, and agriculture. He has extensive knowledge of the economic and political landscape in Africa. Simmonds holds various roles, including senior consultant to Kroll, advisory board member of the Commonwealth Enterprise & Investment Council, and chairman of the advisory board of Invest Africa, the global investment platform. He is a trustee of the British Institute in Eastern Africa.
