James D. Filpi is a Senior Counsel with the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) in the Office of the General Counsel of the US Department of Commerce, where he assists commercial leaders all over the world in developing legal infrastructure. Mr. Filpi has worked in the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, as well as Central and South America.
Prior to joining CLDP, Mr. Filpi practiced law with the International Competition Group of the DC office of the law firm Goodwin Procter, LLP, where he advised clients regarding commercial transactions and federal administrative procedures. Mr. Filpi received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a BA in Psychology from the University of Virginia.
Mr. Filpi is a member of the American Bar Association Section of International Law and served as Co-Chair of the Middle East Committee. Mr. Filpi is also a member of the Maryland Bar Association Section of Business Law and the DC Bar Association Section of International Law.
