Stephen Rahaim

As Chief Counsel, Mr. Rahaim manages a global compliance function of environmental, safety and health and product regulatory lawyers and paralegals responsible for the legal aspects of DuPont’s safety, health and environmental obligations. Mr. Rahaim advises DuPont facilities nationwide regarding compliance with various environmental and process safety programs and represents the Company in litigation and negotiations with state and federal agencies. In addition, he has primary responsibility for providing environmental guidance to DuPont’s global operations and is actively involved in international litigation in the area. At the corporate level, Mr. Rahaim is the lead legal member of DuPont’s Global Environmental Audit Leadership Team and has principle responsibility for review of proposed mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence activities and transactional drafting relating to environmental and safety and health matters.

Prior to assuming his current role, Mr. Rahaim maintained a diverse environmental practice as a partner in two national law firms. He has particular experience in the development of compliance strategy for chemical manufacturing and power entities and in litigation related to exposure and remediation of hazardous substances. In the area of toxic tort litigation, Mr. Rahaim has specialized in the development of expert testimony, for both plaintiffs and defendants, regarding the environmental effects of exposure to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, benzene, chlorinated solvents, PCBs, dioxins, pesticides and herbicides, mercury and other heavy metals and the historical development of manufacturing and remedial standards related to such agents.

An environmental consultant by training, Mr. Rahaim focused on hazardous waste permitting and remediation oversight with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and later with Dames & Moore, an international engineering consultancy. He gained particular experience in the operation of chemical manufacturing and petrochemical refining complexes and was the principal RCRA regulator for two of the largest refining complexes in New Jersey. As a consultant, Mr. Rahaim participated in air, water and waste regulatory matters for various power (nuclear and fossil fuel) and petrochemical complexes in California, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Mr. Rahaim is a 1992 graduate of Rutgers University School of Law - Camden, and a graduate of the University of Delaware (M.S., Organic Geochemistry (1986); B.A., Geology (1983)). Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Georgia, and the District of Columbia, he is a member of the Environmental, Mineral and Natural Resources Law sections of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Environmental Law sections of the Delaware and Georgia bar associations.
