Gianfranco Spiteri

Gianfranco Spiteri is a seasoned public health professional with extensive experience in epidemiology and surveillance. At the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) since September 2011, Gianfranco serves as the Group Lead for the Epidemic Intelligence Team and specializes in sexually transmitted infections, including managing the European gonococcal antimicrobial surveillance programme (Euro-GASP). Prior roles at ECDC included serving as an Expert in General Surveillance and as an Epidemiologist in the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Unit. Gianfranco's career began with a fellowship at EPIET and a position as Secretary General with IFMSA. Educationally, Gianfranco holds an MSc in Public Health Medicine and an MD in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Malta.
