Wei Wang

Wei Wang, M.D., SCYM(ASCP), is a research scientist and flow cytometry core facility manager at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Wang oversees the joint flow cytometry core facility of the Columbia Center for Translational Immunology (CCTI) and the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC). The facility supports research for the Columbia community, annually servicing 400+ users and 150+ labs in immunology, cancer biology, inflammation, stem cell biology, small particles, metabolism, neurobiology, and so on. With 10+ experience in flow cytometry, Dr. Wang is an expert in high-parameter flow cytometry panel design (20 to 40 colors), experiment design, new assay development, as well as troubleshooting. She has built an OMIP Collection stand-alone application for multicolor flow cytometry panel design (https://www.omipcollection.com/news-1). Her research interest includes establishing the best practice roadmap for multicolor panel design and building user training and education/troubleshooting courses for flow cytometry core facilities.

With a background in Medicine and biomedical research, Dr. Wang started her career in science as a physician-scientist. Her research focus was on hematopoiesis and immunology in cardiovascular diseases. She finished her postdoctoral training at Rockefeller University and Columbia University before fine-tuning her career trajectory toward a more technology-oriented direction. Dr. Wang has published 30+ peer-reviewed research papers and is currently the guest reviewer of several peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Wang is certified as a specialist in cytometry (SCYM) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). She is also a member of the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC).
