Guy Thoonen

Guy Thoonen is a seasoned professional in the field of science policy and research, currently serving as a Science Policy Advisor at the Research Foundation Flanders - FWO since April 2016. Previously, Guy worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Antwerp from April 2007 to January 2016, focusing on image processing of hyperspectral remote sensing data and developing machine learning approaches. Prior to this role, Guy completed a PhD with a research emphasis on classification of multispectral and hyperspectral images. Guy's experience also includes a position as a Design Engineer at Melexis, where responsibilities included digital IC design and firmware development for automotive sensors. Academically, Guy holds a PhD in Science from the University of Antwerp, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology, and an Industrial Engineer degree in Electronics from Hogeschool PXL.
