Beto Borges is an experienced leader in environmental advocacy and community governance, currently serving as the Director of the Communities and Territorial Governance Initiative at Forest Trends since January 2005. In this role, Beto Borges created and leads a program that supports indigenous and forest communities in Latin America, promoting innovations in advocacy, economic self-determination, and cultural integrity to secure rights and resources. Previously, Beto Borges worked as a Program Officer at the Goldman Environmental Prize, overseeing conservation projects in Latin America and Africa, and managed sustainable harvesting at Shaman Pharmaceuticals. Beto Borges began a career in environmental advocacy as the Director of the Amazon Program at Rainforest Action Network, focusing on indigenous rights and conservation in the Brazilian Amazon. Beto Borges holds a BS in Conservation & Resources from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA in Strategic Leadership from Dominican University of California.
