Dr. Joseph G. Harman was born and raised in Peoria, IL. He attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL, where he graduated with honors in May of 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. In 1992, he began medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI. There he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1996.
After completing a one-year internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee, WI, Dr. Harman received his specialty training in ophthalmology at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, where he served as Chief Resident from 1999 to 2000. As part of his residency, Dr. Harman worked at the George H. O’Brien, Jr. VA Medical Center in Big Spring, TX, where he performed medical and surgical services for our nation’s veterans. During this time, he also provided eye care for the developmentally disabled at the San Angelo State Supported Living Center.
In July of 2000, Dr. Harman and his wife and four kids returned to Illinois, where he then began practicing at the Gailey Eye Clinic. Dr. Harman focuses on providing the latest techniques for performing advanced cataract surgery, including the use of the Alcon LenSx™ laser and Lifestyle Lenses to reduce the need for glasses after cataract surgery. He also uses the Abbott Medical Optics iLASIK Suite™ to provide state-of-the-art laser vision correction for patients with nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. He is additionally experienced in general medical and surgical ophthalmology and offers family eye care, including glasses and contact lenses, to the Central Illinois community.
Dr. Harman is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is currently a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
