Brian Schmidt

Brian Schmidt is an American audio engineer and software developer. Brian is currently the advisor at Game Developers Conference. Brian has also worked as the CTO of QSound Labs and audio director of Digital Dreams Entertainment.

Brian started their career in 1987 as a sound designer, musician and programmer for Midway Games. Brian wrote music for pinball machines and arcade video games. Brian created new development tool set and maintained and added features to low-level audio operating system in 'C' and 6809/6800 assembly.

In 1998, they joined Microsoft as an audio manager. Brian was the audio architect for Xbox 360 and main architect for the XACT audio tool. Brian created Xbox "boot sound" and oversaw long-term audio roadmap for game audio technologies. Brian left Microsoft in 2008 to join QSound Labs as the CTO.

In 2011, they founded Ear Games, a mobile game development studio. Brian is also the founder and president of Brian Schmidt Studios.

Brian Schmidt earned a Master of Science in Computer Applications in Music from Northwestern University. Brian also holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory and Composition from Northwestern University.
