Irfan Essa serves as the Senior Associate Dean and Distinguished Professor at the College of Computing, Georgia Institute of Technology since September 1996. Essa's expertise encompasses research and teaching in areas such as Computer Vision, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Computational Journalism. Essa is also the Executive Director of the Center for Machine Learning at Georgia Tech. With previous experience as Associate Dean of Research and Director of Off Campus Initiatives for the College of Computing, Essa has developed educational strategies for various programs. Prior to Georgia Tech, Essa held positions at Google as Principal Research Scientist, Disney Research as a Consultant, and MIT Media Laboratory as a Research Scientist. Essa earned a PhD from MIT and a BS from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
