Matthew Fernandez

Undergraduate Robotics Researcher at Georgia Institute of Technology

Matthew Fernandez is currently a Research Intern at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, focusing on soft robotic actuation under the guidance of Professor Kaitlyn Becker. Concurrently, Matthew serves as an Undergraduate Robotics Researcher at the Georgia Institute of Technology's CRAB Lab, where the focus is on designing and testing bio-inspired limbless marine robots under Professor Daniel Goldman. Previous experiences include an impactful role as a Robotic Manipulation Intern at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where Matthew contributed to the Mars Sample Return mission by developing manipulation system prototypes. As Mechanical Lead for RoboJackets, Matthew led a team in the creation of a semi-autonomous rover for the University Rover Challenge, utilizing SOLIDWORKS for design purposes. Matthew has also participated in various projects, including marine robotics at the Georgia Tech Research Institute and process engineering at Procter & Gamble. With a strong foundation in engineering education from Georgia Institute of Technology and Hillsborough Community College, Matthew holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
