Michel Baud was born in Geneva in 1944. After attending primary school and obtaining his ETS electrical engineer diploma in Geneva in 1964, he carried out, between periods of military service, internships in Germany such as Werkstudent and in England in a language school. At the end of 1967, he joined CFF in Lausanne as an engineer in the field of security installations. After having led for 20 years various projects affecting the whole field of security installations, he heads as deputy the IS project group (1987-94) then, as head, the planning section of infrastructure projects (1995-97). Following the CFF reforms, he continued his career as deputy of the infrastructure management unit (1997-99) and finally as head of unit of the French-speaking infrastructure subsidiary (2000-2004). In 2005 he joined GESTE as an expert in the IS field. He was appointed vice-president of the company in 2006. His main activities consist in providing technical support and support to project managers in the field of railway safety installations, in training new company employees and in carrying out work for the Office.
