For Dan, his journey began with a degree in finance from Indiana University and a knack for fixing systems. After several early individual entrepreneurial successes, Dan took the helm of Gregory & Appel as the fourth generation of Appel leadership.
Through decades of economic storms and the arrival of technology, Dan grew the firm, working to build a stable, profitable agency that improved the quality of three things: life for employees, advice and services for client organizations, and resources for the community as a whole. It worked. By helping others under Dan’s leadership, G&A succeeded, and Dan was able to turn over the reins to the fifth generation with his son, Andrew. Dan remains on G&A’s Board of Directors and continues to mentor and develop others in the firm.
Philanthropy has always been a part of the Appel values, and Dan works hard to embody it. He aims his focus on giving back through his positions on boards that are a part of the fabric of the Central Indiana community, Indiana as a whole and the Midwest. The scope of Dan’s support is significant. He works to fund and guide organizations that provide everything from utilities to art to medicine to education.
When asked about his ideal personal destination, Dan shares his dream to be with his family and friends at a 1920s-style fishing camp off the shore of Belize. Elegant, not fancy. The ride has been an exciting one, but Dan still celebrates that you never know where a journey leads.
