What’s this role about?
GridBeyond are in the process of entering the Japanese Energy market. This role is required to support with the initial phases of market entry consisting of working with the Product, Development and Regulation Teams in GridBeyond to help us firstly understand the Japanese Energy markets and helping to design, build and test the business processes and applications required to transact. The enduring responsibility of this role is with the Market Optimization Team and the purpose is to help GridBeyond provide its customers with a route to market to monetise flexibility in all available energy markets and ancillary services. The role involves a close working relationship with our clients and our market optimisation team to deliver execution of trading strategies initially in Japan, but eventually across all of our jurisdictions, while ensuring all customer sites are responding to grid services. Successful candidates will also be involved in the ongoing development of solutions, tools and reports whilst providing ongoing analysis of markets.
What will I be doing?
Collaborate with and support software engineering teams and project managers in outlining the business logic related to various ancillary service programs in the Japanese energy market (e.g., RR-FIT FCR, FRR, etc.).
Offer insights on interpreting specific market regulations based on prior knowledge or thorough research when necessary.
Identify and gather relevant published materials concerning ancillary service programs in the Japanese market, highlighting key sections that need to be translated into English.
Serve as a liaison with Transmission System Operator (TSO) contacts as required.
Act as a bridge with local (Japanese) consultants when needed.
Facilitate communication with local (Japanese) customers.
Optimize our portfolio in ancillary services (such as frequency and reserve) and energy markets.
Analyse market dynamics to define short-term trading strategies, manage trade execution, and handle both financial and physical aspects of our asset positions.
Support and advance GridBeyond’s entry into new ancillary services and power markets by understanding market structure, analysing potential opportunities, and developing and executing trading strategies.
Assess and address alarms, taking ownership and responsibility for resolving them promptly.
Manage customer inquiries (including report configuration, setpoint adjustments, schedule modifications, etc.).
Support GridBeyond’s smart grid services by handling application processes, conducting weekly and real-time declarations, analysing declarations, managing dispatch, responding to site/application alarms, and generating customer statements.
Reach out to customers to ensure that dispatch and engagement information is up-to-date and that they are prepared for dispatches.
Ensure we are always prepared to deliver a dispatch that meets grid requirements, with established procedures and staff ready to respond.
Continuously monitor service delivery performance and prepare performance reports as needed for grid operators.
Develop an understanding of customer sites, assets, and control techniques for currently operational sites.
Provide weekly reports on unit performance and alarms to the business.
Conduct energy analyses on customer data to identify efficiency improvements, site energy usage issues, and additional savings opportunities for clients in Ireland and the UK.
Support the deployment team with Cite-See (GridBeyond’s head-end controller).
Configure and support Centre-See and the Customer Portal for our existing customer base.
Provide feedback to the development team regarding tools and services that aid in energy analysis.
Assist in developing clients' net-zero strategies across various industries.
Support the integration and assessment of the carbon impact of new renewable technology solutions, along with other activities and service offerings that may emerge as the role evolves.
What do I need to be a good technical fit for this role?
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
Knowledge of the Japanese energy sector
Familiarity with wholesale energy markets and ancillary services is advantageous
Proficient in both Japanese and English
Passion for sustainability, renewable technologies, and carbon neutrality
Experience working on a 24/7 shift schedule is a plus
Excellent communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities
Capable of creating presentations and reports to a high professional standard
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently
Organized, energetic, and self-driven
Proficient with Microsoft Office software suite
Highly numerical and analytical
Strong attention to detail
