Appointed as a non-executive director of Grindrod on 1 October 2021 and as Chair of the Board on 3 June 2022. Cheryl has served on the boards of numerous listed companies, including De Beers and Investec, and as chair of Gold Fields. Cheryl previously served as chair of South African Airways, on the South African National Parks Board and on the boards of public and private partnerships that focus on socio-economic and empowerment challenges. She has a long history of serving on the boards of non-profit organisations such as the International Crisis Group, Soul City, World Wildlife Fund, the British Museum and the SA Constitution Hill Education Trust and was South Africa’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2001 to 2004.
