After earning a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Singapore Management University in 2012, Salvin completed various internships, including roles at Citibank, Temasek Holdings, and Barclays Capital, where responsibilities ranged from portfolio management to global markets analysis. Salvin then worked at Glencore before joining Gunvor Group Ltd in October 2014 as a Naphtha specialist, further solidifying expertise in the energy market.
