James A. Smith

James A. Smith is an experienced IT executive with a comprehensive background in managing information technology operations across various sectors. As Deputy Director for Gwinnett County since June 2019, James oversees centralized IT services for over 6,500 employees. Prior roles include serving as Chief Information Officer at the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance, where James transformed the IT organization into a strategic partner, and Director of Global Enterprise Operations at the Corporate Executive Board. Earlier positions include leadership roles at SHL, PreVisor, IntegriCom, Northeast Georgia Diagnostic Clinic, CheckFree Corporation, and Gusmer Corporation. James holds a BS in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland and has pursued additional education in technology leadership and business management from Northeastern University and Boston University.
