Álvaro Ortiz

Álvaro 'Al' Ortiz is a seasoned communications professional currently serving as the Public Information Officer at the Harris County District Clerk's Office since December 2019, overseeing internal and external communications, social media, public relations, and legislative affairs. Previously, Ortiz was a Senior Digital News Producer at Houston Public Media from 2015 to 2019, and served as a Senior Reporter for the Houston Chronicle, primarily covering the Hispanic community, from 2012 to 2015. Ortiz has also held positions as Press Secretary for U.S. Congressman Al Green and as Texas News Bureau Chief for Azteca América Televisión, where Álvaro 'Al' established a news operation. An early career includes roles at KOMU Channel 8, EFE News Services, and Estrella Digital. Ortiz holds a Master's degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia and studied at Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
