Petros Koumoutsakos

Area Chair, Applied Mathematics at Harvard University

Petros Koumoutsakos is an esteemed expert in Applied Mathematics, currently serving as Area Chair at Harvard University since August 2021 and as a Professor at ETH Zurich since September 1997. Petros holds the position of International Member at the National Academy of Engineering since February 2018 and has been recognized as a Distinguished Affiliated Professor at the Technical University Munich since April 2017. Responsibilities have also included roles such as Fellow at Collegium Helveticum (September 2016 - November 2020), Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study (September 2016 - August 2017), and Wallace Visiting Professor at MIT (September 2016 - July 2017). Past experience includes serving as Chair of the Scientific Steering Committee for PRACE (February 2016 - February 2017), Director of Computational Science Zurich (September 2014 - September 2016), and researcher at NASA Ames Research Center from 1994 to 1997. Academic qualifications include a PhD and Master’s degrees from Caltech, a post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford University, a Master’s from the University of Michigan, and a diploma from the National Technical University of Athens.
