As a graduate research assistant at New York University since September 2017, Akihiro developed a random access two-photon microscope for tracking neural activities in freely behaving animals, utilizing Bayesian methods for 3D neuron tracking. Previous experience includes serving as a student researcher at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics, where Akihiro designed optical experiments and implemented a virtual reality assay, and various research and teaching assistant roles at the University of Colorado Boulder. Akihiro holds a Ph.D. in Biophysics and Systems Neuroscience from New York University and a B.A. in Physics from the University of Colorado Boulder.
