David Kenefick

David worked in St. Michael’s House services for people with intellectual disability for nearly 40 years. He began his career as a psychologist, established and undertook staff training and then worked through four executive management roles. Having worked as Deputy Chief Executive from 2001 to 2012 he retired. David was actively involved in the Psychological Society of Ireland in 1970s and 1980s. He undertook three Council roles, including President in 1979/80. He was involved in establishing the Special Interest Group in Intellectual Disabilities and was active in it. Following an MEd award in 1995, David took a three year break from service delivery and provided management training to staff in health, mental health and disability services around the country, principally working for the Institute of Public Administration. David was awarded a PhD by Dublin City University in 2015 for an Insider Participatory Action Research project in the area of service development. David was the Project Manager for the Children’s Research Network for Ireland and Northern Ireland (CRN) from 2015 to 2018. This involved managing and developing the Network, leading the large Prevention and Early Intervention Research Initiative project, integrating CRN into the Centre for Effective Services in 2015 and managing its transition to the Trinity Research in Childhood Centre in 2018. He is currently a member of the CRN Advisory Committee.
