Jon Schnautz

Jon Schnautz is a legal and advocacy counsel at the Insurance Council of Texas since October 2024, contributing significant expertise in insurance policy. Prior to this role, Jon Schnautz served as Vice President of State Affairs and Regional Vice President for the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies from December 2019 to October 2024. Earlier experience includes serving as Chief of Staff to State Representative John Smithee in the Texas House of Representatives and as General Counsel/Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives from February 2010 to January 2019, where responsibilities included advising on major legislative initiatives. Jon Schnautz began a legal career as an Associate at Thompson & Knight LLP and as a Policy Analyst for State Senator Todd Staples, contributing to key workers' compensation reforms. Educational credentials include a Doctor of Law (J.D.) with high honors and a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, summa cum laude, both from The University of Texas at Austin.
