Essa M. Faal is an experienced legal professional with a prominent background in international law and prosecution. Currently serving as the Head of Unified Investigation and Prosecution Team at the International Criminal Court since January 2006, Essa supervises major investigations and prosecutions. Previous roles include Lead Counsel for various high-profile cases, including the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission in The Gambia and the ICC case against Said Al Islam Gadaffi. Essa has extensive experience with the United Nations, having held several positions in East Timor, including Chief of Prosecutions and Acting Deputy General Prosecutor. Essa has also contributed to justice sector reform projects globally as the Head of Large Projects Unit at the International Development Law Organization. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Laws from Fourah Bay College, a Barrister at Law degree from Sierra Leone Law School, and a Master of Laws from The University of the West Indies.
