Brian has been a Senior Researcher at the Food and Resource Economics Institute in Copenhagen since 1995. His qualifications include an MSc (1987) and a Ph.D. (1994) in Agricultural Economics attained at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Copenhagen. He also holds an MSc. in Farm Management from Reading University (1989).
His professional activities have included analyses of investment behavior and decision-making at the farm level. He has also been involved in analyses of concepts used for budgeting and strategic planning. In recent years, the focus has been more on environmental economics and the costs of adaptation to new measures introduced to reduce nitrogen, phosphorous, ammonia, and CO2 losses. He is currently engaged in analyses related to the implementation of the Water Framework Directive and the implementation of new technology to reduce environmental impacts.
His professional activities include being a Member of the Agricultural University’s Halls of Residence and a member of several advisory groups to the Ministry of Food. He was chairman of the economic analyses prior to The Plan for The Aquatic Environment III.
He has been an active supporter of IFMA since the 7th IFMA Congress that was held in Copenhagen. He has a wide-ranging experience in agricultural economics and research including farming systems and management and their environmental impacts. He has published in both journals and farm magazines.
